Event Medical Services & First Aid Cover Devon & Cornwall

Picture 1.jpg

Let's dive into our dedicated team of Event medics.  Unlike traditional "First Aiders" who primarily handle workplace first aid, our Medics are highly trained experts in their field of Pre- Hospital Emergency Care , providing four distinct skill sets. Here's a closer look:

Medicare2.jpg

FIRST RESPONDERS

These diligent individuals serve as our frontline Medics and undergo training at the FREC 3 or L3 FROS level. They're proficient in delivering crucial life-saving techniques, including BLS CPR with Defibrillation, administering Oxygen, managing Airways (OPA/NPA), and monitoring vital signs like Blood Pressure and Oxygen Levels. New First Responders receive mentorship and collaborate with seasoned Medics. Many of them also volunteer as Community First Responders alongside the Ambulance Service and others provide the CST Street Marshall / Responder service in Barnstaple

EMERGENCY CARE ASSISTANTS:

ECA's are trained to an even higher standard, holding qualifications equivalent to FREC 4 and most have blue light training. They are registered with the Ambulance Service or HPAC and play a crucial role in supporting Paramedics. ECA's are authorised to provide pain relief, such as Entonox, and conduct ECG tests to confirm heart-related issues. At smaller events, they often assume the role of Clinical Lead, overseeing a team of First Responders.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS (EMT/AAP):

EMTs are more qualified and trained than ECAs, allowing them to perform additional tasks and take on greater responsibility in patient care. Here's a breakdown of what an EMT can do that an ECA typically cannot:

More advanced clinical interventions such as Administering medications/drugs, Advanced Airways, Advanced ECG support, EMTs are expected to take the lead in managing more complex medical or trauma cases and  Lead the response during Major Incidents when a  paramedic is unavailable.

Event Medical Support  Fleet:

Double Crewed Ambulance (DCA)

Picture 1.jpg

A double-crewed event ambulance refers to an ambulance staffed by two trained crew members (often a Paramedic and/or ECA Emergency Care Assistant) that is assigned specifically to provide medical support at an event. These ambulances are typically deployed at gatherings such as sports events, concerts, festivals, or large public gatherings where the presence of on-site emergency medical services is necessary or prudent.

Ambulance Equipment

  • Fully stocked for basic and advanced life support (defibrillators, oxygen, Entonox, trauma kits, vacuum splints).

  • Includes a carry chair, scoop stretcher, and trolley.

  • Operates in partnership with a CQC provider for stabilisation and transport as needed.

Purpose at Events

  • On-Site Response: Provides immediate care for injuries, heat exhaustion, and cardiac events.

  • Patient Transport: Swiftly transfers those needing hospital treatment (when a CQC conveyance service is booked).

  • Proactive Readiness: Alleviates pressure on local emergency services during large events.

Deployment Benefits

  • Shortens response times.

  • Enhances attendee safety and wellbeing.

  • Meets legal and regulatory standards for event safety.

In summary, a double-crewed ambulance is essential for rapid, professional medical care at organised events, ensuring the wellbeing of large crowds where a dedicated treatment area is required.

Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV)

Picture 1.jpg

A Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV) ambulance car offers several benefits when deployed at events. RRVs are typically smaller, faster, and more manoeuvrable than full-size ambulances, making them highly effective for specific roles in event medical coverage.

Speedy, Flexible Response

  • Rapid Response Vehicles (RRVs) can weave through crowds and congested areas swiftly, delivering vital care during the “golden hour”.

  • Ideal for tight or off-road locations (e.g., urban festivals, stadiums, pedestrian zones) where larger ambulances may struggle.

Efficient Use of Resources

  • Typically staffed by a single highly trained clinician (paramedic or EMT), ensuring strategic deployment of medical personnel.

  • Complements double-crewed ambulances by focusing on initial response and triage, while larger units handle patient transport.

Advanced Equipment & On-Site Stabilisation

  • Despite their size, RRVs carry essential life-saving tools: defibrillators, oxygen, airway kits, trauma supplies, and monitors.

  • Clinicians provide advanced care on-site, stabilising patients until a full ambulance (DCA) arrives.

Enhanced Safety Perception

  • The visible presence of an RRV reassures attendees that professional medical help is readily available.

In Summary
RRVs offer fast, high-quality care and are a key part of event emergency plans, especially for challenging terrains or limited-access areas.

4x4 Support Vehicle (RRV)

Picture 1.jpg

A 4x4 ambulance car is a specialized vehicle designed to handle challenging terrains and adverse weather conditions. Its unique features make it especially beneficial in certain scenarios. Here are the basic benefits:

Off-Road Capability & Improved Access

  • 4x4 drivetrain handles mud, snow, sand, or gravel with ease.

  • Ideal for rural areas, outdoor events, or poor infrastructure.

  • Reaches remote sites (mountain trails, forests, construction zones) beyond standard ambulances.

Emergency-Ready

  • Despite smaller size, equipped with vital supplies (defibrillators, oxygen, trauma kits).

Enhanced Reliability

  • Built to tackle harsh conditions, reducing breakdown risks.

  • Ensures continued service where standard vehicles might fail.

Cost-Effective Option

  • Often cheaper than a full-size off-road ambulance, fitting smaller budgets or teams.

In Summary
A 4x4 ambulance car delivers mobility, durability, and essential medical care, making it indispensable in challenging terrains.
